Alexion Makes Donations to Support Community Responses to COVID-19 Outbreak

Alexion is committed to assisting communities and medical systems in their efforts to address the public health crisis caused by the COVID-19 pandemic and is taking a holistic approach to supporting our global communities across a range of areas of need.

The Alexion Charitable Foundation is donating a total of $500,000 across three nonprofit organizations, including:

  • The Center for Disaster Philanthropy’s (CDP) COVID-19 Response Fund, which focuses on building capacity of local nonprofits to protect healthcare workers and providing financial support to individuals in need throughout the world;
  • The AmeriCares COVID-19 Response Fund, which focuses on increasing health workers’ access to personal protective equipment (PPE), training, mental health resources, technical assistance and supplemental medical staff across the globe; and
  • The World Health Organization’s (WHO) Covid-19 Solidarity Response Fund, administered by the UN Foundation, which focuses on coordinating operational support, country readiness, and R&D acceleration globally.

Separate from the monetary charitable donations outlined above, Alexion Pharmaceuticals has also donated lab equipment and instruments to enable hospital laboratories in our surrounding communities of Massachusetts, Connecticut and Rhode Island to perform diagnostics testing, sample preparation and research to help meet the challenge of diagnosing and treating patients with COVID-19. This includes donations to the Massachusetts Life Sciences Emergency SupplyHub created by the Massachusetts Biotechnology Council (MassBio) to support the Massachusetts Emergency Management Agency (MEMA) state-wide coordination of supply requests, and to Yale New Haven Health coordinated through the New Haven Manufacturers Association.
